Long Distance Signal Extension with Multiple Technologies in the Home

The modern home is becoming a technology hub with devices in constant communication across multiple rooms. Centralised signal management has become a large part of the home technology experience. As more devices are added, further away from this central location, cost-efficient and versatile extenders become necessary. This scenario explores the use of four differing extension technologies from Lindy, including powerful fibre optic extenders, to distribute signals up to 300m in residential environments.

Modern residential buildings often feature multiple displays and media sources that use a variety of media signals to transmit audio and video across longer distances as annex or out-buildings become more popular.

In this example four sources are controlled and distributed by a central matrix around a home and to an out-building. The four sources are connected via HDMI cables to a local 4×4 Matrix Pro which then outputs the four signals using different transmission methods for signal extension over a variety of distances. This matrix supports 4K 18G inputs and outputs to ensure that, if the source permits, the entire solution can utilise the full 18G bandwidth capacity of the latest HDMI standards.

In this scenario the matrix outputs to four different transmission technologies. The first, and simplest, of these is a standard local HDMI cable that is provides the 4K connection directly over short distances to a local display. Using audio extraction, the audio signal is first routed to an amplifier before the TV so that a speaker system may be used inplace of the TV’s integrated speakers.

The second output from the matrix is transmitted via an 18G active HDMI cable to a room close to the location of the matrix. The third output passes through a 100m HDMI over CATX extender system. The transmitter unit is connected to the matrix by a simple HDMI cable before the signal is sent along inexpensive CATX cable to the receiver unit which is upstairs/some  distance from the matrix. This receiver is placed close to another 4K display which the signal is finally sent to via HDMI cable.

The fourth, and final, output from the matrix is sent to an out-building, annex, pool area etc. via a fibre optic extender system that features both transmitter and receiver units. By using fibre optic cables to make this connection, large distances up to 300m can be covered using cheap, efficient and easy-to-install duplex fibre optic cabling. This method of signal transmission benefits from EMI & RF resistance so that other electrical cables or equipment located nearby don’t cause artefacts or errors in the transmission. The fibre optic connection allows IR signals to be sent to the display for remote control of the source while also delivering the full 18G bandwidth with no compression, ensuring content arrives at the display exactly how it left the source.

LINDY Launches Cost Effective Extender for HDMI Over Gigabit Network

Halves the cost of equipment required to broadcast HDMI signals over IP

Here is our most cost effective product yet for distributing video content throughout large buildings such as schools, hotels, hospitals, shops, shopping centres and business premises. The LINDY HDMI Over IP Extender allows for full HD images to be sent over a gigabit ethernet network or up to 100m using a single CAT6 Cable.

Consisting of transmitter and receiver units, the extender can support one to one, one to many and many to many configurations. In addition, it is possible to use up to three layers of active network devices to distribute video making it highly flexible for digital signage, presentation and demonstration applications, while providing the ability to expand easily as the installation evolves.

Using a form of video compression that is barely perceptible, the LINDY HDMI Over IP Extender converts the HDMI signal to enable it to be broadcast over IP. LINDY suggests because of high use of bandwidth requirements of Full HD video that the system runs on its own dedicated network or used in a separate port based VLAN.

LINDY Launches Ethernet Extender for Video Walls

We are pleased to announce our new HDMI over Gigabit IP Video Wall Extender which allows you to distribute an HDMI signal up to 1080p via RJ-45 cable up to 100m or through an Ethernet network to multiple displays. Perfect for digital signage, public display and large scale presentations these extenders convert the HDMI signal to IP broadcast signals. Network devices can be used to distribute the signals.

The LINDY HDMI Video Wall over IP Extender supports arrays of up to 64 screens in an 8 by 8 configuration. An intuitive web GUI enables full, local or remote control over how the content is displayed along with essential control over bezel correction and video tearing.

In addition to the video wall configuration, the extenders support 1-to-1, 1-to-many and many-to-many installations, for extending and distributing signals over extremely long distances. Transmitter and receiver units can be purchased separately to give maximum flexibility.

USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable

Active Extension Cable lets you use USB 3.0 devices over longer distances

With a LINDY USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable you can use high speed USB devices up to 11m away. The cable’s plug and play capability ensures that it is simple and fast to use, providing flexibility for multiple uses and reliability for permanent setups.

USB 3.0 cables are only certified to lengths up to 5m, after this the signal becomes too weak and unreliable causing drop outs which can make devices or software running over it to crash. LINDY’s active USB cables feature built-in electronics, which regenerate the USB 3.0 signal to support longer distances.

The LINDY USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable comes in two lengths 5m and 10m. Two 5m cables can be daisy chained together, whilst the 10m cable also includes a handy connection for attaching a power supply to voltage hungry peripherals. By using a USB 3.0 cable, up to 1.2m in length, to connect the device a total length of over 11m can be achieved.
